Early Years
Karen was born in Lincoln,
where aged 5 and placed at her first painting easel, she promptly
fell off. This little mishap neither dampened her desire for art,
nor as was later to prove, her determination to carry on regardless,
as in 2001, saw her as the UK Runner-up in the Prince's Trust's
"Against the Odds" competition.
Career Development
Karen's art career began
from gaining commissions designing signs for a local fish and
chip shop as a young teenager. After attending a 1 year foundation
art course she trained and worked for several years in graphic
design.
Her ambition was to
make a living as an illustrator and a visit to the NEC's Spring
Fair gained her 3 offers of representation from agents. In 2001
Karen set up entirely on her own and now works full time.
Karen's favourite subject is governed
by her love of animals - cats and kittens in particular, where
she not only attempts the intricate details of hair and fur, but
also in capturing the personality and character of each one.
